CIHQ CEO Outlines Changes to CMS Requirements for Multi-Hospital Systems and their Medical Staffs

HOUSTON - Sept. 29, 2015symplrTM, a leading provider of Software as a Service (SaaS) based healthcare compliance and credentialing solutions, today announced the upcoming webcast “CMS for Multi-Hospital Systems & Integrated Medical Staff Offices.” Part of the symplr Education Series focused on Provider Management, the webcast will air on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at 12 p.m. CT/1 p.m. ET.

For years, multi-hospital systems have looked for ways to consolidate medical staffs only to be stymied by an age old CMS requirement that each hospital have its own separate and distinct organized medical staff. However, in July 2014, CMS announced revisions to its interpretive guidance under Medicare Conditions of Participation for Acute Care and Critical Access hospitals. Under the new guidance, CMS will allow for either a unique medical staff for each hospital or for a unified and integrated medical staff shared by multiple hospitals within a hospital system.

In this webcast, CIHQ CEO Rick Curtis, RN, MS, HACP, will educate attendees on the basic changes to CMS interpretive guidance affecting multi-hospital systems and their medical staffs and the four requirements that medical staffs must meet if they wish to integrate. He will also cover the strategies to assure ongoing compliance to the COP’s and answer questions in a live Q&A.

“The new CMS guidance is a welcome change for multi-hospital systems, but it also requires new methods to put it into place and ensure compliance,” said Rick Pleczko, President and CEO of symplr. “Rick Curtis has traversed the new CMS requirements and will share how to integrate with the new CMS guidelines as well as maintain compliance while doing so.”
