The Dimock Center, a diverse Boston-based healthcare organization, successfully transformed its compliance operations from manual, paper-based processes to a unified, proactive system using symplr Compliance. This transformation enabled a small compliance team to effectively oversee complex regulatory requirements across multiple program types while achieving remarkable efficiency gains, including a 56% increase in incident reporting and a 60-65% reduction in time spent managing compliance issues.
When Alejandra Barrios, Associate Chief Compliance & Enterprise Risk Officer, and Adriana Ramirez, Senior Compliance Specialist & Risk Manager, joined Dimock’s compliance department (a team of two), they inherited a fragmented system struggling to keep pace with the organization’s diverse regulatory landscape.
Committed to providing community-based, whole-person care, The Dimock Center operates multiple programs under one umbrella, including:
Each program brings unique regulatory requirements spanning HRSA, The Joint Commission, FTCA, and state licensure standards. “A lot of things were paper trail,” Adriana said. “For the kinds of programs that we have at our organization and the small team we have, it wasn’t feasible. We needed one central platform to encompass everything.”

Dimock selected symplr Compliance to centralize its compliance operations and enable proactive risk management.
“When we explored working with symplr, our main objectives were to break down organizational silos and bring our proactive vision for compliance to life.” Alejandra explained.
The implementation focused on three key areas:
Working closely with the symplr implementation team, Dimock was able to configure the solution to support its unique multi-program structure while maintaining regulatory compliance across all areas.
“Our incident reporting increased by 56% with the web-based reporting form, helping reduce reputational risk by getting everyone aligned on the importance of reporting. In just six months, we’ve already reached 220 incident reports, compared to over 300 for all of last year.”

“If I need a report on committee meeting minutes, I can quickly pull a ComplyTrack report, link all the documents, and bring everything to an external auditor—without having to track down and print each item individually.”

“Before symplr, incident reporting meant faxing, emailing, and chasing down details. Now, we can review everything at a glance with minimal follow-up because the reports are so thorough. We’re saving 6–7 hours on monthly committee reports and another 1–2 hours on weekly updates—and the data is in our hands in minutes, not hours.”

“It’s any compliance leader’s goal to make sure everyone in the organization is asking additional questions, thinking more deeply about the why, and not just moving forward with action,” Adriana shared. “With symplr Compliance, we were able to reduce the time spent managing and tracking compliance issues by 60–65%, providing real-time efficiency gains.”

“When I first arrived at Dimock, risk assessments had to be written individually in Word. Now, instead of taking four hours to create a document, it’s just a click of a button to use a template.”

The new system dramatically improved Dimock’s incident reporting culture and efficiency:
56% increase in internal incident reporting through user-friendly web forms
The transformation yielded significant time savings across compliance activities:
The time spent developing risk assessments was reduced from 4 hours to minutes through automated templates
In March 2025, Dimock faced the ultimate test of its new compliance system: an unannounced Joint Commission survey that arrived a month and a half earlier than expected.
Instead of scrambling through paper files, the team responded with confidence. “I quickly went onto symplr,” Adriana said. “If we hadn’t had symplr, I would not have been able to generate the report to show them we were in compliance. The numbers are what mattered most.”
“Presenting real-time, comprehensive data made a crucial difference.” Alejandra added, “It spoke volumes to senior leadership and our board.”
Dimock successfully earned its accreditation, proving that the team’s proactive compliance approach wasn’t just efficient—it was effective.
Looking Forward
Dimock’s transformation demonstrates that effective compliance management doesn’t require large teams – it requires smart systems and proactive approaches. The organization continues to expand its use of symplr Compliance, implementing self-assessment capabilities, leveraging the tool as a comprehensive document management system, and exploring additional automation opportunities.
“The internal assessments we’ve built with symplr have significantly improved our ability to report to agencies and meet their requirements,” Alejandra shared.
Its success has enabled Dimock to shift from reactive compliance management to proactive risk prevention, with staff now equipped to ask deeper questions and think strategically about compliance challenges before they become problems.
“symplr has played a vital role in helping Dimock gather data, evaluate risks, and prevent compliance issues – whether operational, reputational, or otherwise,” Alejandra concluded. “With ingenuity, teamwork, and dedication, we’ve shown that achieving strong results doesn’t require a large compliance team.”
