Revised Elements of Performance and Standards

Patient Safety | The Joint Comission | Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services

Effective starting August 25, 2014, the Accredited Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASC) have revised Elements of Performance (EP’s) and Standards mandated by The Joint Commission. It’s time to revise your policies.

The Joint Commission applied to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for deeming authority for ASC. After CMS’ review of its application, The Joint Commission issued prepublication revisions to standards and EP’s for the ASC Deemed Program and the Home Care Accreditation Program.

The revisions to the ASC Deemed Program include EPs in Environment of Care; Infection Prevention and Control; Information Management; Leadership; Provision of Care, Treatment and Services; Performance Improvement; and Record of Care, Treatment and Services. The Joint Commission indicated the reason for these amendments is to align with the current Medicare Conditions for Coverage.
